TTT*: Books I wish I read as a kid

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter, #1)   A Monster Calls   The Phantom Tollbooth

  1. Harry Potter And The Sorcerers Stone: I read this, but after I saw the movie, and it didn't have the effect on me that it's had on many people my age. The sense of connectedness and passion that Pottermores have is something I feel I missed out on.
  2. A Monster Calls: So moving. This story is so full of love, pain, and acceptance. Every page is a catharsis. Also the artwork is invigorating, perfect for the story.
  3. The Phantom Tollbooth: The passion of wordplay is amazing and I wish I'd know of it sooner. A lot of blogs I've seen praise this book as THE book of their childhood, the one that made them love words. Even as an adult this book is an amazing accomplishment in understanding language and communication.
What about you guys? Which book from your childhood is still a great read for adults?

*I don't read as fast as many books or as fast as most who participate in this meme so I decided to do a Top Three. This way my posts wont be so repetitive and I can still play with you guys. Love you all. Please tell me what you think of my list and link yours. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

  1. My fifth grade teacher read The Phantom Tollbooth to us a long time ago, and I remember loving it. I also really liked Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech.

  2. I love Harry Potter. I think I first read it in 3rd grade??? I'm not too sure lol. I want to say 2nd because I remember attempting to read the 5th HP book in 3rd grade but that sounds way too young.

    1. I looked it up while writing this post. First published in 1997, I was in the 3rd grade then. I was not much of a reader then, though.

  3. I wish I would have been able to read Harry Potter as a child too. But, they didn't even come out until I was 17 yrs old! I did read them from the beginning though. Way before the films came out and I would take the newest book to work with me and read on my lunch break or sneak peeks into the book throughout the day. I couldn't help it! I was addicted. I would have really loved these as a child.

  4. I was lucky enough to have read both Harry Potter and The Phantom Tollbooth as a kid. I read Harry Potter at the perfect age - 11 - and I wish I could do it over again. I had no idea how those books would impact my life then. And The Phantom Tollbooth I read with my class then, and it totally changed how I looked at reading and writing and that's when I decided I want to be a writer. So yeah... quite the powerful book :P

  5. Yes to all three! Well, I did read The Phantom Tollbooth as a kid, but the other two weren't out yet, so...

  6. I wish I'd had HP when I was a kid, too. I felt silly reading it as an adult, but that's okay -- I loved all the books and am glad I've been able to enjoy them with my kids.

  7. I wish I read HP as a kid too! But then.. Back when I was like 5 y/o, my mom brought us the DVD of the first HP movie. My brother and I were so scared because Hogwarts is kinda dark and the was screaming Myrtle and the trio transforming into someone else! After that I didn't really get into HP talks until I reached my teens :)

  8. I loved reading The Phantom Tollbooth when I was younger and have reread it a number of times. It really is a great story with an interesting world and it teaches you a multitude of words and their uses to boot. I haven't read Harry Potter yet, but may do that one day.
